The Satchel Paige Stamp issued by USPS honors the legendary baseball pitcher, Leroy “Satchel” Paige. The stamp features a portrait of Paige against a backdrop of a baseball field, with his name and the words “USA First Class” in bold letters. Paige was one of the most talented and charismatic players in the history of baseball, known for his blazing fastball, his colorful personality, and his pioneering role as one of the first Black players to break the color barrier in professional baseball. He played for numerous teams over a career that spanned more than two decades, and was widely regarded as one of the greatest pitchers of all time. The stamp recognizes Paige’s enduring legacy as a trailblazer and an icon of American sports, and celebrates his contributions to baseball and to the struggle for racial equality. It was issued in 2021 as part of the USPS’s “Legends of Baseball” series of commemorative stamps.
