Description
In honor of the pioneering marine biologist and zoologist Ernest E. Just, the United States Postal Service issued a postage stamp in 1996. Just was an African American scientist who studied the effects of the environment on the growth of cells. He was a leader in the field of experimental embryology and his research helped to advance the understanding of the development of life from a single cell. The Ernest E. Just stamp is a fitting tribute to the scientist‘s accomplishments. The words “Ernest E. Just, Biologist” are printed on the bottom of the stamp. The stamp is a reminder of the contributions Just made to science and to the advancement of knowledge. It is also a reminder of the importance of recognizing the achievements of African American scientists in the United States.
