Hip-Hop: MC

Released on July 1, 2020, The Hip-Hop MC is an authentic postage stamp honoring Hip Hop music and culture. This stamp, the first in a series of five stamps, celebrates the 45th anniversary of the birth of Hip Hop. The stamp features a stylized portrait of an MC (rapper). In the background, a turntable and mixer are depicted, representing the early days of Hip Hop.

The stamp was designed by Antonio Alcala and illustrated by Mark Summers. It was issued in a pane of 20 stamps and was printed by Banknote Corporation of America in the offset process. The stamps were issued in two formats: a 55–cent definitive (forever) stamp, and a set of five 44–cent commemorative stamps.

Description

The Hip Hop MC stamp was issued by the United States Postal Service on July 1, 2020, as part of their Forever stamp series. The stamp features an illustration of a microphone with a silhouetted figure rapping into it, against a colorful, graffiti-style background.

The stamp celebrates the cultural impact of hip hop music and recognizes the contributions of the MCs (Masters of Ceremonies) who are the vocalists and performers of the genre.
