Description
The Hip Hop MC stamp was issued by the United States Postal Service on July 1, 2020, as part of their Forever stamp series. The stamp features an illustration of a microphone with a silhouetted figure rapping into it, against a colorful, graffiti-style background.
The stamp celebrates the cultural impact of hip hop music and recognizes the contributions of the MCs (Masters of Ceremonies) who are the vocalists and performers of the genre. MCs use their voices and lyrics to tell stories, express emotions, and address social and political issues, making them integral to the art form.
The stamp was designed by art director Antonio Alcalá, who worked with designer and graffiti artist Cey Adams to create a vibrant and dynamic design that captures the energy and spirit of hip hop. The stamp was also developed in collaboration with the Universal Hip Hop Museum, which is set to open in the Bronx, New York in 2024.
The Hip Hop MC stamp is a significant recognition of the cultural impact of hip hop music and the contributions of the artists who have helped shape the genre. It reflects the enduring influence of hip hop on popular culture and its ability to connect people across generations and backgrounds.
