The Star Wars 30th Anniversary stamp was issued by the United States Postal Service on May 25, 2007 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars franchise. The stamp features a portrait of Darth Vader, the iconic villain of the Star Wars saga, voiced by actor James Earl Jones. The stamp was released as part of the USPS Star Wars: Galactic Mail series, which included other stamps featuring characters such as Yoda and R2-D2. The stamp was designed by USPS Art Director Terrence McCaffrey, with illustration by artist Drew Struzan. The USPS issued the stamp in a limited edition of 125 million copies and it is still available for purchase today.

Description

James Earl Jones was an American actor best known as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars. He was born in Missouri in 1920 and began acting in the 1940s. He had roles in several films and television shows, including Alfred Hitchcock‘s The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), The Twilight Zone (1960), and The Outer Limits (1964).
 
In 1977, Jones was cast as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars. He provided the voice for the character in the original trilogy, as well as in later films such as The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). Jones’ deep, booming voice was perfect for the menacing Sith Lord, and helped to make Darth Vader one of the most iconic villains in cinema history.
 
Outside of Star Wars, Jones had a long and successful career in film and television. He appeared in over 100 films and television shows throughout his career, including The Big Valley (1965), Mission: Impossible (1966), Claudine (1974) and Kojak (1975). He also had a recurring role on the television series The Six Million Dollar Man (1974-1978).
 
Jones passed away in 1992 at the age of 72. His legacy as the voice of Darth Vader will live on forever.
